Thinking Green
At Diego Zhang’s Burger Café, we share our founder’s passion and vision of creating an environment that is easy on the eyes as well as the planet. We believe good design, style and sustainability are not mutually exclusive. Here’s a partial list of materials used in the making of our unique environment:
Kirei Board
The base of our cabinets and entry wall are made from Kirei
(pronounced Key’-ray) board, a material manufactured from reclaimed
stalks of the sorghum plant. The layers are bound with an adhesive
that emits no formaldehyde.

Bamboo
A large part of our space is created with bamboo. Bamboo
is a highly sustainable product and ours is harvested from a forest
that requires no irrigation or pesticides. Only five-year-old poles
are used in the manufacture of the boards and plywood, also known as
Plyboo.

Concrete
The eco-friendly tops on our front counter, beverage station
and restrooms were designed and produced by Fiddlehead Designs, a local
design and fabrication firm focusing on producing environmentally responsible
countertops, sinks, furniture and architectural elements. Their concrete
includes organically derived stains and finishes.

Dakota Burl
The unique looking tops of our dining tables are derived
from sunflower hulls. That’s right, sunflower seeds. The beauty
of traditional burled wood from a bio-based, elegant environmental
option to hardwood.

Organic Paints
The paint finishes on our walls contain no VOC’s (Volatile Organic
Compounds), making them a safe alternative to conventional finishes.

Organic Cotton
The shirts and hats worn by our staff are made from organic
cotton, a sustainable material that is durable, comfortable and simply
great looking.
